Floor Scale

A floor scale is a low platform that sits on the ground and is loaded from above, used for pallets, drums, IBCs, sacks and general industrial goods that are too heavy or too awkward for a bench scale. A typical unit has four load cells, a junction box and an indicator, with capacities starting around one tonne and deck sizes from roughly 1 m by 1 m upward.

Deck size and capacity follow the goods. The footprint has to take the full pallet or container layout, and the capacity has to cover the heaviest load plus the pallet itself. Cells and deck are chosen together: a heavier deck with more or larger cells carries a bigger load, while a lighter deck suits trolley traffic in a packing or dispatch area.

How goods arrive on the platform shapes the installation. A hand trolley or pallet truck can roll straight on if a ramp is fitted, a forklift needs a deck that takes the wheel loads and enough approach space, and a scale set into a pit gives a flush floor at the cost of building work and drainage. Floor level, drainage and the cable run to the indicator should be checked before the position is fixed.

Before ordering, settle the largest footprint and load, the way goods are moved on and off, whether the scale sits on the floor or in a pit, and where the indicator and power are available. Where the weight must be printed, logged or sent to another system, that requirement belongs in the same conversation.
