Forklift Scale

A forklift scale weighs the pallet while it is on the forks, so the load can be checked during the lift instead of at a separate floor scale. The weighing frame either replaces the fork carriage or sits between the carriage and the forks, and the reading is shown in the cab or on a display fixed to the truck. Loading, unloading and internal transfers then double as the weighing step.

The fitting is decided by the truck. Fork pocket dimensions – fork width, thickness and spacing – and the way the scale is carried on the carriage have to match the existing forks, whether the scale replaces the forks or the original forks stay in use. The maximum load must cover the heaviest pallet expected, and allow for off-centre loads and the shock of a quick lift. Lift height matters as well: most systems weigh most reliably at a set lift position with the mast steady, so the operating pattern of the truck belongs in the selection.

Power and display come next. Some units draw from the truck battery, some run on their own battery, and the truck’s supply voltage and the way the connection is made have to be recorded. Decide where the driver reads the weight, whether the value must be held while the truck moves or a stable reading is enough, and whether readings have to be collected. A yard truck working outdoors in dust, rain or a cold store has different housing and cable needs from one used inside a dry warehouse.

One limit is worth stating plainly: the scale weighs on the truck, so mast tilt, uneven ground and driving movement all show in the reading. Check stability with a known load in the way the truck is normally used, and agree which lift position counts as the weighing position before the routine is fixed.
