Remote Display

A remote display takes the weight value from the indicator and repeats it on a larger, brighter readout: above a weighbridge window, on a loading bay wall, beside a mixer or filler, or in a cab or control room. It carries no weighing electronics of its own — it is a second view of the same reading, placed where the person acting on the weight is actually standing.

Fit is decided by four things that vary a lot between sites: the character height needed for the distance at which the figure has to be read, the output the existing indicator offers (a serial, current-loop or bus connection is common, and some indicators drive a display directly while others need an interface card), the length and routing of the cable between indicator and display, and the power available at the display position. Legibility in direct sunlight, behind glass in a dark control room, or with rain on the front face all change the choice.

Check before ordering: which indicator will feed it and whether that indicator’s output can be set to the display’s format, how far away the reading must still be clear and at what height the display will be mounted, how long the cable run is and whether it follows the same path as power cables, whether the display is fixed or moved between positions, and whether the site needs the weight alone or also the unit, the tare state and a hold of the reading.

One limit worth stating up front: a remote display cannot correct, filter or stabilise a signal. If a reading drifts or flickers on the display, the cause is almost always in the indicator setting, an over-long or poorly routed cable, or an unsupported connection — and that has to be sorted at the source, not on the display.
