Crane Scale

A crane scale weighs a load while it hangs, so a lifted item can be checked at the point where it is picked up, transferred or loaded. The range runs from light units carried to a job and hooked onto the crane, up to heavier scales that stay on the crane hook and show the load in the operator’s hands or in the cabin.

Selection starts with the load itself. The maximum weight to be lifted has to include slings, shackles and any impact from the lift, not just the goods. The crane end also decides the fitting: a top hook or a shackle, with enough opening and clearance to sit on the existing hook. The reading then has to land where someone can see it, either on the scale body, on a separate handheld display, or on an output that feeds a cabin display or another system.

The working surroundings matter as much as the numbers: a unit used outdoors in rain and dust, or one that is hosed down, has different housing and cable needs from a scale kept indoors. Remote control, battery versus fixed supply, and whether readings must be recorded or sent on are all worth settling before a model is chosen.

Before ordering, gather the maximum load with fittings, the hook or shackle arrangement, the display position and the environment. Those answers decide the capacity, the fitting and the display option far more than any single number.
