Weighing Integration for a Packaging Project

A packaging system integrator (name withheld)

Use condition

An in-line NW-CW-5 checkweigher supplied for a packaging project, with belt interface and accuracy conditions clarified together with the line integrator.

A packaging system integrator was building an in-line weighing station for a packaged food line and needed a checkweigher that would fit an existing conveyor layout. The integrator asked for the weighing side of the project to be defined before the line was commissioned: belt interface, reject timing and the accuracy conditions the end customer could expect.

We selected the NW-CW-5 checkweigher for the product weight range and matched the belt width to the line, then agreed the reject and speed-reference signals with the integrator’s controls. The unit was delivered as a standalone weighing section with the configuration recorded as delivered, so the integrator kept ownership of the surrounding conveyor, guarding and line acceptance.

Customer Type and Problem Type

Customer Type
System Integrator

Engineering firms that build weighing into a larger control or process system.

Problem Type
Project Integration

Cases where weighing is one station inside a larger line or installation.

Project Context

A packaging system integrator was building an in-line weighing station for a packaged food line and needed a checkweigher that would fit an existing conveyor layout. The integrator asked for the weighing accuracy conditions and the interface points to be defined before the line was commissioned, because the end customer's acceptance test depended on them.

Work Process

We selected the NW-CW-5 checkweigher for the product weight range and matched the belt width to the line layout. The reject signal, speed reference and belt interface were agreed with the integrator's controls engineer, and the weighing accuracy conditions were reviewed against actual product samples at the intended line speed.

Responsibility Split

Novoweigh supplied the checkweigher and the configuration and weighing documents, and supported configuration and commissioning questions. The integrator designed and built the surrounding conveyor, guarding and reject handling, and owned line integration. The end customer ran the final acceptance test on packed product and now owns routine verification.

Delivered Items

  • NW-CW-5 Checkweigher

NW-CW-5 checkweigher in the standard belt configuration, with conveyor, weighing section, reject mechanism and controller; belt width matched to the line and the reject output wired for the integrator's controls.

Delivered as a standalone weighing section for the integrator to install in the line; configuration and wiring notes handed over with the unit.

Verification

Accuracy conditions were reviewed together with the integrator using actual product samples at the intended line speed. Belt interface, reject timing and the speed-reference signal were checked on site before handover, and the agreed conditions were recorded so they could be re-checked later.

Results

The checkweigher was installed in the line and the integrator completed its acceptance run. The documented accuracy conditions gave the end customer a defined basis for routine checks and for re-testing if the product or line speed changes.

Limitations

Demo example; final accuracy and throughput depend on the actual product, line speed and handling, so a configuration that suits one line is not a guarantee for another. Checkweigher fit and weighing performance must be confirmed against the specific product and operating conditions in a real project.
